A Decade of Pop Culture Milestones They Missed

Can you believe it's been over a decade since Psy's "Gangnam Style" took the world by storm, becoming the first video to hit a billion views on YouTube? Released in July 2012, this cultural phenomenon predates many of next year's Year 7s!

The excitement didn't stop there. The London 2012 Olympics, a thrilling display of athletic prowess, also happened in 2012. Next year's Year 7s won't have any firsthand memories of those awe-inspiring events.

Remember the catchy tune of Macklemore's "Thrift Shop"? Released in 2012, it was a major hit back then, but these youngsters will have no recollection of its catchy melody.

Mobile Games and Tech Advancements: A Blast from the Past

Feeling a bit ancient yourself? The once-infuriating mobile game Flappy Bird, released in 2013, will be celebrating its 11th birthday this May! There's a good chance some of next year's Year 7s weren't even born when this game had everyone glued to their phones.

Speaking of technological advancements, the iPhone 5c, released in September 2013, will be older than some of these incoming students. The sleek PlayStation 4, launched just a couple of months later in November 2013, might seem cutting-edge to them, but it's actually been around for over a decade!

A Whole New World for Young Minds

The world of entertainment has also evolved significantly since the early 2010s. Disney's mega-hit "Frozen" celebrated its 10th anniversary in December 2023, making it practically "ancient" compared to the experiences of next year's Year 7s.

Entering secondary school is an exciting time filled with new experiences. For the incoming Year 7s of 2024, it will also be a journey of discovering a world filled with pop culture moments, technological advancements, and entertainment trends that predate them!
